Pioneers finish in scoreless draw at Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. --- Tusculum University and Anderson University played to a 0-0 draw in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action Wednesday night.

The Pioneers (5-3-2, 1-3-2 SAC) outshot the Trojans (3-3-2, 2-1-2 SAC) by a 13-3 margin, but could not solve Anderson keeper Franco Antoniolli Funes who finished with six saves. Tusculum freshman keeper Sondre Liahagen Kolnes had three saves in his first career start to earn the shutout.

Each keeper made one save in the first half, with Kolnes coming up with back-to-back saves on Anderson's Diego Jaramillo and Ivan Cardona in the 62nd minute to preserve the deadlock. Funes would be tested five times in the final 28 minutes, including stops on Mo Bouta in the 74th minute, Carlos Perez in the 79th minute and Artur Marques in the 87th minute. Tusculum would earn two corner kicks in the final 90 seconds but could not convert.

Tusculum will host fourth-ranked Limestone on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 4:30 p.m. at Pioneer Field. The Saints (7-1-1, 4-1-0 SAC) sustained their first loss of the season on Wednesday at Wingate by a 1-0 score.
