Former Pioneer added to men's soccer staff

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Former Tusculum University men's soccer standout Georgios Charkoutsakis has been named a graduate assistant coach for the Pioneers announced TU head coach Allen Vital.

Charkoutsakis will assist with all facets of the men's soccer program including practice coordination, instruction, recruiting and academic advisement.

The Heraklion, Greece native was a three-time All-South Atlantic Conference performer during his 67-match career where he totaled 17 points including six goals and five assists. Four of those goals proved to be match-winners.

During his TU career, the Pioneers posted a 37-26-10 overall record including 21-13-7 in SAC play. Charkoutsakis led Tusculum to SAC Tournament titles in 2016 and 2018. As a true freshman, he earned All-Conference honors during the regular season and was named to the SAC All-Tournament Team.

"It's great to have Georgios back with us as a member of the coaching staff," Vital said. "I'm excited to have him working with our younger players, sharing his innate passion for winning as well as the invaluable experience he gained while playing on some of our championship teams."

He also guided the Pioneers to a pair of NCAA Division II Tournament appearances including 2018 as TU advanced to the Southeast Region semifinal.

He was the anchor of a Tusculum defense which accounted for 20 shutouts and a sterling 1.33 goals against average during his Pioneer career.

"Having spent the past four years at Tusculum as a student-athlete, I am grateful to be able to continue being part of the program as a graduate assistant coach," said Charkoutsakis. "The opportunity to learn and grow as a coach under Coach Vital and my fellow staff members is a privilege. I look forward to investing my time and using my playing experience to help the team develop."

Charkoutsakis graduated from Tusculum in May 2020 while majoring in business administration and management. He is working on his graduate degree in business administration.
