
BREVARD, N.C. --- Pablo Laguna accounted for
his second consecutive match-winner as the Tusculum College men's
soccer team shut out Brevard College 1-0 Wednesday afternoon at the
BC Soccer Field.
With the victory the Pioneers (6-3-1, 3-1-1 SAC) earn an important
three points and move into a three-way tie for third place with 10
points in the league standings along with Brevard (3-6-1, 3-2-1
SAC) and Lincoln Memorial University (6-2-1, 3-2-1 SAC).
Laguna scored his team-leading third goal of the year in the 42nd minute as he scored from close range on a tapped ball next to the goal. The winning score was assisted by Guillermo Lazcano for his second assist of the 2015 campaign.
Laguna also scored the match-winning goal in Tusculum's 1-0 SAC victory against Newberry College last Friday night in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Tusculum sophomore goalkeeper Jorge Alvarez recorded his conference-leading fifth shutout of the season as he finished the match with three saves.
Tusculum out-shot BC by a 13-9 margin, while also holding an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Pioneers return to action this Sunday afternoon as they host Coker College for Homecoming 2015. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
