JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. --- Jonathan Spicher scored the match-winning goal in the 88th minute as sixth-seeded Tusculum College defeated No. 3 seed Carson-Newman University 2-1 Tuesday night in a quarterfinal match of the 2014 South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament at McCown Field.

With the win, the Pioneers (10-6-2) have punched their ticket for Friday's semifinal and will face No. 2 seed Mars Hill University on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

With the match looking to be heading to extra time, Spicher took a through ball pass from Mark Patterson down the right side and blasted a shot to the far post at the 87:01 mark of the match.

Spicher assisted on Tusculum's first goal in the 15th minute when Tyler Linkous scored from the right side of the penalty area for his third goal of the season.

The Eagles (7-9-2) connected on the equalizer in the 60th minute when Rurik Pereira headed in a corner kick for his fourth scoring tally of 2014.

This is isn't the first time that Spicher and Patterson have accounted for late-match heroics against the Eagles. In last month's regular-season meeting Patterson scored on a one-timer in the 76th minute to salvage a 1-1 draw with their arch-rivals.

Tusculum keeper Jorge Alvarez faced 13 shots and recorded four saves in his 90 minutes of work to improve to 7-2-1 on the season. C-N's Micah Varner posted three saves in the loss.

The Pioneers will be making their eighth trip to the SAC Tournament semifinal and first trip since 2009. Friday's match-up will mark the fourth time TC and Mars Hill have met in the SAC postseason. TC has won two of the three SAC Tournament meetings, including a win over the Lions in the 2009 championship match at Manchester Meadows.
