ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum College men's soccer team will be the No. 6 seed and open South Atlantic Conference Tournament play on Tuesday night when they travel to Jefferson City to take on third-seeded Carson-Newman University (7-8-2). The SAC Tournament quarterfinal match-up will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at McCown Field.

Tusculum (9-6-2) punched its ticket for the SAC postseason with Friday's 4-1 victory over Newberry College.

The two East Tennessee rivals played to a 1-1 draw in this year's first meeting. Senior Mark Patterson knocked home the equalizer in the 76th minute to send the match into extra time.

TC finished the SAC regular-season with a 5-4-2 league record for its 17 points. Carson-Newman posted a 6-3-2 league worksheet for its 20 points.

Tusculum is vying for its fifth SAC Tournament championship having won the league postseason title in 1999, 2004, 2008 and 2009.

Tuesday's match-up will mark the fourth time the Pioneers and Eagles have squared off in the SAC Tournament, but first meeting in the quarterfinal round. C-N defeated Tusculum in the 2003 semifinals, but Tusculum exacted revenge by knocking off the Eagles in the 2004 championship match. Tusculum and Carson-Newman last met in the SAC Tournament in the 2009 semifinal at Manchester Meadows. TC won 2-1 en route to winning in the championship match.

Tusculum has enjoyed success in the SAC Tournament, posting a 15-8-2 record in its 16 years as a league member.

The winner of Tuesday's quarterfinal will advance to Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, South Carolina for Friday night's semifinal against either No. 2 Mars Hill University or No. 7 Lincoln Memorial University. That semifinal match will kick off at 7 p.m.

The 2014 SAC Tournament championship match is slated for 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Manchester Meadows.
