Box score

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Lenoir-Rhyne University's Makonnan Clare recorded a pair of goals, while the Bears held off a furious rally in Sunday's 2-1 South Atlantic Conference men's soccer victory at Tusculum College.

With the win, Lenoir-Rhyne (5-6-2, 5-3 SAC) climbs into third place in the SAC standings, while halting Tusculum's three-match winning streak.

Clare's first goal came seven minutes into the contest, scoring from 25 yards outside the left corner of the penalty area and just inside the far right post. His second tally came in the 26th minute as he and Ben Jones played give and go into the box as Clare notched his third goal of the year to the far right post.

The score remained 2-0 until the 73rd minute when Roberto Pimentel gathered in a rebound off the L-R keeper and scored from 18 yards away for his team-leading seventh goal of the year.

Tusculum continued the assault and got its best scoring chance in the 80th minute when Pimentel's bid for the equalizer was turned away by a diving Zach King. TC's Pablo Laguna gathered in the rebound but his shot hit the right side of the goal netting.

King recorded his second win of the year in goal for the Bears, finishing the day with eight saves.

Tusculum dominated possession for most of the match, out-shooting the Bears by a 23-10 margin, while also owning a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

TC goalkeeper Jorge Alvarez accounted for five saves as his 363 consecutive shutout minutes streak ended.

Tusculum will travel to in-state foe Lincoln Memorial University this Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in Harrogate, Tennessee.
