Giro goal paces Tusculum to 2-1 win at Milligan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. --- Guillem Giro's first collegiate goal proved to be the match-winner as the Tusculum College men's soccer team defeated host Milligan College 2-1 Wednesday night.

The Pioneers (3-3) level their record while the Buffaloes fall to 2-3-2 on the season.

Tusculum scored early as Jonathan Spicher notched his third goal of the year in the third minute to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Spicher's goal was assisted by Juan Avendano.

In the 63rd minute, Giro gave Tusculum a two-goal advantage when he found the back of the net.

Milligan cut the deficit in half in the 75th minute as Bruce Oliver scored thanks to an assist by Lewis Grant.

Jorge Alvarez picked up the victory in his first Tusculum start in goal as he allowed one goal in his 90 minutes of action. Milligan net-minder Dan Ball also went the distance and record five saves.

Tusculum out-shot the Buffaloes by an 11-7 margin, including 7-1 in the opening half. Spicher led the team with three shots, while Giro added a pair of shots, both on frame in his 30 minutes of action.


The Pioneers return to action Saturday as they travel to Wingate University for a 7:30 p.m. South Atlantic Conference contest.
