Andre Bissmark's goal in the 38th minute stood up as the
game-winner in Tusculum College's 1-0 victory over Catawba College
Saturday night in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action
from Pioneer Field.
The Pioneers (6-6-2, 3-3-1 SAC) outshot the Indians (7-4-3, 2-2-3
SAC) by a margin of 11-3, but it was Bissmark who came through late
in the first half to give the Tusculum the victory.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead at 37:12 on Bissmark's second goal of
the season. Bissmark's initial shot was blocked by the Catawba
defense, but the ball caromed back to him and he was able to beat
Indians keeper Frankie Cardelle and give Tusculum a 1-0 lead.
The Tusculum defense clamped down on Catawba in the second half,
permitting just two total shot attempts and just one on goal, which
Pioneer keeper Andy Goellner was able to gather.
Tusculum finished the match with an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks
over Catawba, and fouls went toward the Indians by a slim 11-10
margin.
Goellner earned his fourth shutout of the season in goal for the
Pioneers, while Frankie Cardelle was called upon to make three
stops for the Indians.
Tusculum will be back in action next Saturday night at 7 p.m. when
Lenoir-Rhyne visits Pioneer Field for a SAC match. The Bears
eliminated the Pioneers from the SAC Tournament last season with a
3-0 victory in the quarterfinals in Greeneville.
