Mario Pinto recorded a hat trick in Lincoln Memorial
University's 5-0 victory over Tusculum College in a South Atlantic
Conference men's soccer match Wednesday afternoon.
Pinto, the SAC's leading scorer with 12 goals, scored in the 28th,
47th and 65th minutes for the Railsplitters (7-3-1, 3-3-0 SAC), who
allowed just two shots on goal to the Pioneers (5-6-2, 2-3-1 SAC)
in the match.
Yuri Passos and Mackenzie Wilde also scored for LMU, which led 2-0
at halftime and added three goals in the first 21 minutes of the
second half to build their winning margin.
Pinto's first goal came off a quick pass by Diego Deschamp at
27:34, and Passos followed at 35:44 with a 40-yard free kick to
give the Railsplitters a 2-0 lead that they took into halftime.
Pinto made it 3-0 off a pass from Fabio Fukumoto at 46:19, and
Wilde put home a rebound at 58:39 to extend the Lincoln Memorial
lead to 4-0. Pinto finished off the hat trick by putting home his
own rebound at 66:14.
The Railsplitters finished with a 17-6 advantage in shots over the
Pioneers in the match, while both teams took three corner kicks.
LMU was called for 17 fouls to 13 by the Pioneers, and each team
was shown a yellow card.
Andy Goellner finished with seven saves in goal for the Pioneers,
and Marcel Barwanietz tallied two stops for the Railsplitters in 77
minutes before yielding to Brady Seehorn for the final 13
minutes.
Tusculum will be home Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. against Catawba
in a SAC match at Pioneer Field.
