Roberto Pimentel scored the game-winning goal with 4:25 left in
the second half to give Tusculum College a 2-1 victory over
Newberry College in a South Atlantic Conference men's soccer match
Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Field.
Pimentel took a pass from Fredrik Muren and fired home his third
goal of the season to give the Pioneers (5-5-2, 2-2-1 SAC) the win
over the Wolves (3-6-1, 0-4-1 SAC).
The Pioneers finished with an 18-6 shot advantage over the Wolves,
but had to rally from a 1-0 deficit on goals from Tiago Doneux in
the 50th minute and Pimentel in the 86th minute to earn the
win.
Newberry struck first at 19:40 when Stephen Harvey took a breakaway
pass from Julian Feneberg, got by Tusculum keeper Victor Ohlin and
deposited his first goal of the season.
Tusculum notched the tying goal just under five minutes into the
second half, when Doneux flicked home a cross by Andre Bissmark for
his first goal of the season and a 1-1 tie.
The Pioneers nearly took the lead in the 74th minute, but Wolves
keeper Patrick Sweatt came out and smothered a breakaway shot by
Cody Kammerzell.
After Pimentel's goal, the Wolves pressed for the equalizer and
nearly got it with two seconds left, but Feneberg blasted a shot
over the crossbar just before the final horn.
Ohlin finished with one save in goal for the Pioneers, while Sweatt
made six stops for the Wolves.
The Pioneers will be on the road Wednesday afternoon for a SAC
match at Lincoln Memorial, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
