Ado Junuzovic scored two goals as Clayton State University
defeated Tusculum College 3-0 in non-conference men's soccer action
Wednesday afternoon.
Junuzovic scored in the 22nd and 77th minutes for the Lakers
(4-5-0), who finished with a 23-11 shot advantage over the Pioneers
(4-5-2) in the match.
Alhagi Toure added a second-half goal for Clayton State, which
peppered the Tusculum net with 14 shots after halftime.
Junuzovic opened the scoring at 21:14 with his eighth goal of the
season from 15 yards away, following a pass from Jonny Evans.
The Lakers nearly took a 2-0 lead in the second half when Pioneer
keeper Andy Goellner was sent off with a red card at 58:30.
However, Victor Ohlin came on and saved a penalty kick by Junuzovic
to preserve the one-goal margin.
Clayton State was able to take a 2-0 lead with exactly 25 minutes
left as a corner and pass put the ball on the foot of Toure, who
netted his fourth goal of the season. Elliot Prost and Donal
Roughneen were credited with assists on the play.
Junuzovic added an insurance goal from close range with 13:02
remaining to give the Lakers the winning margin of 3-0. Nomis Cisic
earned the assist on the play.
Despite being outshot by over 2-to-1 by the Lakers, the Pioneers
finished with a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. A total of 13 of the
Lakers' 23 shots were on goal, compared to six of 11 by the
Pioneers.
Goellner made four saves before giving way to Ohlin, who made six
stops during his time in net. Sean Merfeld posted the shutout for
Clayton State by making six saves.
The Pioneers will return to South Atlantic Conference action Sunday
afternoon against Newberry at Pioneer Field. Game time is scheduled
for 4:30 p.m.
