Andre Bissmark's goal in the 50th minute was the difference in
Tusculum College's 1-0 victory at Anderson University in a South
Atlantic Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon.
In a defensive battle, the Pioneers (4-3-1, 1-2-0 SAC) prevailed
over the Trojans (1-5-2, 1-1-1 SAC) to snap a three-match winless
streak. Each team finished with six shot attempts in the match,
with Tusculum putting four shots on goal to two by Anderson.
Bissmark scored his first goal of the season at 49:06 as he took a
pass from Dario Greiser and found the back of the net from 10 yards
away. Bissmark had five of the Pioneers' six shots in the
match.
The teams combined for 27 fouls and three yellow cards in the
match, including 17 fouls in the second half. Anderson finished
with a slim 4-3 edge in corners and were flagged four times for
offsides to two by Tusculum.
Andy Goellner came through with his third shutout of the season for
the Pioneers, making two saves in the victory. Lukas Hesse finished
with three saves in goal for the Trojans.
The Pioneers will be on the road Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. with
a SAC match at local rival Carson-Newman.
