GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College men's soccer team finished as both champion and runner-up at the 2012 Tusculum Indoor Soccer Tournament, Saturday at the College's Indoor Practice Facility.

Following a highly competitive group play stage, both Tusculum teams managed to win their groups and advance to the playoffs. Tusculum 2 defeated the University of Cumerlands, while Tusculum 1 knocked off the Bobcats to reach the finals. Tusculum 1 edged TC 2 to capture the tournament championship.

"I wish to thank all the teams who participated in the tournament and everyone who helped make it a great success," said Tusculum head coach Allen Vital. "This year was one the most competitive group of teams I have seen to participate in this tournament in years. For us to have both of our teams play each other in the finals is an outstanding achievement for our players. I was a very proud coach watching the finals.

Tusculum hosted 22 teams on Saturday from all NCAA Divisions as well as NAIA and NJCAA programs, including a Tusculum Alumni squad.

"I want to thank all the former players who came out and played as well," Vital added. "They had a competitive team and narrowly missed the playoffs. It's been a long standing tradition to have an alumni team play in the tournament. The alumni team was well represented this year and it was great to see all of them back on campus."

The Tusculum men's soccer team will continue its spring schedule on March 17 as the Pioneers travel to ETSU for a 6 p.m. match in Johnson City, Tenn.
