YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. --- Khurram Shazad scored the tiebreaking goal with 12:18 remaining in the second half as Young Harris College defeated Tusculum College 3-2 in a caution-filled non-conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon.

The contest was marred by 12 cards issued by the match referee, including four red cards. Tusculum was shown three of the red cards, and was forced to play 9 against 10 for the final four minutes of the contest.

Shazad's goal came with the Mountain Lions (5-0-0) playing a man down following a red card in the 33rd minute, an infraction that allowed the Pioneers' Stephen McNeill to convert a penalty kick to knot the score at 2-2.

Young Harris took a 1-0 lead at 18:11 as Niall McCabe scored his second goal of the season following a through ball played by Alex Rivera. The Pioneers (0-6-0) evened the score just under three minutes later as Roberto Pimentel headed home a pass from McNeill at 20:59.

The Mountain Lions regained a 2-1 lead at 32:03 as Shazad set up Rivera for his first goal of the season, but McNeill posted the equalizer just 29 seconds later from the penalty spot.

Each team finished with 15 shots in the match, while Young Harris held a slim 5-4 edge in corner kicks. The Pioneers were called for 14 fouls to eight by the Mountain Lions, and Young Harris was offsides six times to three by Tusculum.

Andy Goellner played all 90 minutes in goal for the Pioneers and made six saves, and Wezly Bernard finished with five stops for the Mountain Lions in the win.

Tusculum will be back home on Tuesday night to play Lees-McRae in a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m.
