GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Gui Lima scored the match-winner in extra time to lead the Wingate University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Tusculum College, Saturday afternoon at the Niswonger Sports Complex/Pioneer Field.

Wingate improves to 5-2-0 overall and 1-1-1 in the South Atlantic Conference, while the Pioneers (1-3-3, 0-1-0 SAC) fall in their league opener.

Lima broke a 1-1 tie at the 94:14 minute when he took a through ball into the box from Jack Vundum to notch his first scoring tally of 2010.

Tusculum opened the scoring early in the sixth minute when Andres Jarquin scored from 10 yards out to the top far post and a 1-0 TC lead. Jarquin's goal, his fourth of the year, was assisted by Javier Portillo and Curtis Berger.

The Bulldogs maintained the offensive pressure through most of the match, outshooting the Pioneers by a 30-11 margin, including 17-2 in the first half. Tusculum keeper Andy Goellner recorded five of his nine saves in the first 45 minutes as the Pioneers carried a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

Tusculum stepped up its offensive attack in the second half as TC posted nine shots, including four on frame, which were saved by Wingate net-minder Joey Calandra.

At the 64:19 mark, Tusculum was whistled for a foul inside the box, setting up a penalty kick for Vundum. He blasted the kick to the left corner of the net for his first goal of the year to level the match at 1-1.

Tusculum returns to the pitch this Tuesday afternoon for a 5 p.m. match at Brevard College.
