Men's Soccer suffers 3-1 loss at No. 2 Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Lee Squires recorded a pair of goals and an assist to lead the second-ranked Lees-McRae College men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over visiting Tusculum College Sunday afternoon at Tate Field. The Bobcats even their record at 1-1, while the Pioneers fall to 0-1-1 on the season.

Lees-McRae broke into the scoring column 1:10 into the match as Squires headed in the goal on an assist by David Palmer.

LMC made it 2-0 in the 48th minute as Justin Jones and Squires assisted on Luke Perry's goal, which would later prove to be the match-winner. Squires added his second goal of the afternoon, a one-touch shot past the keeper, which was set up by a crossing pass from Jones and James Galvani.

The Pioneers got on the board in the 80th minute when Javier Portillo notched his first scoring tally of the season. The goal was set up on a free kick into the box by Matt Davies.

Lees-McRae out-shot the Pioneers by a 20-11 margin as TC keeper Andy Goellner went the distance, recording eight saves in the match. LMC keeper Thomas Rusling made three saves in his 70 scoreless minutes in goal.

Tusculum will host Young Harris College this Saturday night at 7 p.m. from Pioneer Field.
