BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Andres Jarquin recorded a pair of goals as the Tusculum College men's soccer team played King College to a 2-2 draw Friday afternoon at Tate Field on the campus of Lees-McRae College.
The Pioneers (0-0-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a goal in each half. But the Tornado (0-0-1) rallied with two goals off the boot of Joe Mayer in the final three minutes of regulation, including the equalizer with 22 seconds left to send the match into extra time.
Tusculum got on the board in the 40th minute as Jarquin gathered in a long lead pass from goalkeeper Andy Goellner to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0. Jarquin added his second scoring tally of the day, when he gathered in a King turnover in the 70th minute and tapped it into the open net for a 2-0 lead.
The score remained that way until the 88th minute as Mayer connected on a shot inside the far post on a through ball by Matt Kilgus. Mayer added the tying tally at the 89:28 mark, gathering in a crossing pass from John Simmons to level the match at 2-2.
The Tornado out-shot the Pioneers by a 19-8 mark as Goellner recorded seven saves in his 110 minutes in goal for Tusculum. King's Justin Morrell accounted for two saves as he went the distance.
