HICKORY, N.C. --- The Lenoir-Rhyne University men's soccer team posted a 5-0 South Atlantic Conference win over visiting Tusculum College Saturday afternoon at the Moretz Sports Athletic Complex.
Former Pioneer Dave Bailey recorded a hat-trick against his former club. Bailey, who played his rookie season at Tusculum in 2005, scored three goals including two in the second half.
Bailey got the Bears (8-6-3, 4-2-2 SAC) on the board first in the 33rd minute, when he took a through ball into the area and tapped it past TC keeper Lance Moore. L-R made it 2-0 just before halftime when John Ferguson scored at the 43:21 mark, which was assisted by Oliver Worth.
Bailey knocked home his second goal of the match off a corner kick by Gary Higgins in the 53rd minute. The Bears added two goals within a minute, coming from Bailey and Ferguson.
The Pioneers (8-6-1, 4-4 SAC) will hit the pitch once again next week in a quarterfinal round match of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament. Official seeding and bracket will be announced by the league office on Sunday.
