GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 2-seed Tusculum College men's soccer team defeated No. 7-seed Mars Hill, 2-1, in the quarterfinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Tuesday night at Pioneer Field.
The Pioneers, ranked No. 23 in NCAA Division II, struck first at the 33:32 mark with an unassisted goal by Lucas Paulini, his seventh of the season. Gareth Williams added the eventual match-winner in the 54th minute to move Tusculum up 2-0. It was Williams' sixth goal of the year..
Mars Hill struck back at the 83:39 mark with an unassisted goal by Nick Cartwright, his fifth of the season.
Tusculum goalie Lance Moore had four saves while Mars Hill keeper Sean Merfeld had 10.
The Pioneers will travel to Rock Hill, S.C. Friday to face eighth-ranked Wingate for a semifinal match of the SAC Tournament. Mars Hill ends its season at 8-9-3.
