Kleinberg shines, Pioneers clip Crusaders 15-8

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Alexander Kleinberg recorded a school-record 17 ground balls, while winning 22-of-27 faceoffs in leading the Tusculum College men's lacrosse team to a 15-8 win over visiting North Greenville University Tuesday night at Pioneer Field.

Kleinberg's 22 wins in the faceoff dot are a new program record. He also recorded his first goal of the season, becoming one of nine different Pioneers to get into the scoring column.

TC's Chris Ryan and Nate Wade each scored three goals, while Ross Parsons and Andrew Kransberger tallied two goals apiece.

Tusculum (4-7) out-shot the Crusaders (1-11) by a 49-31 margin, including a 24-13 in the opening half as the Pioneers led 7-3 at the intermission.

Ryan got the scoring started 82 seconds into the match as he scored his 19th goal of the year. NGU's Davis Finney answered with an unassisted scoring tally 21 seconds later to even the game at 1-1.

Tusculum followed with three goals in a row, including Ryan's second of the match, which was assisted by Parsons. Kransberger and Nate Wade followed with unassisted goals to give TC a 4-1 advantage.

Finney scored his second goal of the quarter at the 1:29 mark as the Crusaders trailed 4-2.

Tusculum out-scored North Greenville 3-1 in the second quarter, including a pair of man-up goals from Nate Wade and Ben Boyd. Mitch Chapman assisted on Wade's goal while Ryan dished out a helper on Boyd's 11th goal of the year.

Finney recorded his third goal of the half and ninth of the season at the 5:49 mark of the second quarter. Ryan close out the first half with his third goal of the game and 21st of the season as Chapman picked up his second assist of the game.

Chapman opened the second half with his third assist of the game and eighth of 2015 as Dallas Wade rattled the goal cage for an eighth time this year.

The Crusaders scored back-to-back goal to trim the deficit to 8-5, before Tusculum answered with five straight goals to take its largest lead of the night at 13-5. Parsons paced the scoring onslaught with his third and fourth goals of the year, while Kransberger scored his 16th and Nate Wade his 21st of the season. Tyler Schafer accounted for his first goal of 2015 and his acrobatic wrist shot.

Tusculum goalie Kevin Haggerty finished the game with 10 saves in his fourth victory of the season. NGU's Jared Stapleton finished with 12 saves, while starting goalie Will Thornton tallied two stops for the Crusaders.

The Pioneers will host defending South Atlantic Conference champion Queens University of Charlotte this Saturday at 3 p.m.
