GATLINBURG, Tenn. --- Tusculum College scored the first 14 goals of the game as the Pioneers recorded a 20-5 men's lacrosse victory over Ohio Valley University Saturday afternoon at the Rocky Top Sports Complex.
Tusculum rookie Chris Ryan tied a program single-game record with his five goal performance, while Andrew Kransberger posted four goals and two assists the Pioneers (1-3) first win of 2015. Kellen Asmundson finished with three goals, while Nate Wade and Dallas Wade tallied two goals each. Ross Parsons, David Fernandes, Tim Drumtra and Jordan Fuller also found their way into the scoring column.
Tusculum scored 12 goals in the opening half, including four from Ryan in the opening 30 minutes.
Leading 14-0 early in the third quarter, Ohio Valley answered with three consecutive goals. Tusculum responded with three goals of its own.
The Pioneers out-shot the Fighting Scots (0-3) by a 65-29 margin, including 42-6 in the first half.
Tusculum goalie Kevin Haggerty recorded 13 saves and posted his first victory in a Pioneer uniform. OVU's Alex Naftal posted 19 saves as he went the distance between the pipes.
Tusculum recorded 55 ground balls on the afternoon, including 10 by Alexander Kleinberg as he matched the school mark he established last spring against Coker College. Ben Boyd finished with six ground balls to go along with his game-high four assists. Kleinberg also shined in the faceoff dot, recording 11 wins in his 14 attempts.
Nate Wade and Dallas Wade dished out three assists apiece, while Steven Raimondi posted a pair of helpers.
Tusculum was also perfect on its three man-up opportunities.
The Pioneers return to action next Saturday when they host Wingate University for a 3 p.m. South Atlantic Conference contest at Pioneer Field.
