Holden shoots 69, tied for eighth at Saint Leo Invite

DADE CITY, Fla. --- Tusculum University's Dominic Barron Holden carded a three-under par score of 69 first his opening round and was tied for eighth place at the Saint Leo Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club and is being hosted by Saint Leo University.

The Pioneers posted a team score of 292 (+4) and were tied for 10th place before Monday's second round was suspended due to darkness. Most of the 108 competitors have three holes remaining. The second round will be completed Tuesday morning beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start followed by the final round.

Holden finished with four birdies, 13 pars and one bogey as he climbed to the tournament's top-10. Freshman Morgan Cain had a roller-coaster round which included five birdies, five bogeys and eight pars and was tied for 21st after 18 holes. Isak Holter shot 75 and is in 57th place, Blake Williams is 64th following his 76 and Liam van Deventer rounds out the scoring with his 78 and is tied for 84th.

Saint Leo's Adrian Soriano shot a nine-under par 63 to take the first round lead. The host Lions fired a sizzling 11-under par total of 277 and led by three shots over second place Keiser (280). Barry shot 282 and was in third place, followed by Nova Southeastern (286), Palm Beach Atlantic (287), Valdosta State (288), Florida Southern (290), Union University (291), Lee University (291), Tusculum (292) and Montevallo (292) to round out the top-10. 

Carson-Newman and Tampa were tied for 12th after carding first round totals of 293. Kentucky Wesleyan was 14th with 297, followed by Virginia Union (300), Hillsdale (301), Lynn (3030, Georgia College (308), Eckerd (310) and Embry-Riddle (311).

This year's 20-team tournament field includes three programs who are ranked in this week's NCAA Division II rankings including third-ranked Lee, No. 11 Saint Leo and No. 17 Nova Southeastern.
