Brown, Williams named GCAA All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. --- Tusculum University's Riley Brown and Blake Williams have been named NCAA Division II All-America Scholars as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar recognition, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Brown, a native of Peoria, Arizona, graduated from Tusculum this past May with magna cum laude honors. He finished with a 3.93 GPA and majored in sports science. He earns GCAA All-America Scholar accolades for a second straight year and is a two-time recipient of the Division II Athletic Directors Association (D2ADA) Academic Achievement Award. He is a member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List, President's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.

Brown played in 10 events this past season where he posted a 74.23 stroke average which included five top-20 finishes including three times in the top-10 and twice in the top-five. He finished fourth at the Bob Dibble Intercollegiate (71-71=142) and fifth at the Walters State Fall Classic (71-78=149). He finished ninth at the SAC Championship with a 54-hole score of 69-73-74=216 to earn SAC All-Tournament accolades. His SAC Tournament total of 216 is tied for the 16th lowest 54-hole score in program history. He was also selected to the NCAA Division II Academic All-District 3 Men's At-Large first team as selected by the College Sports Communicators.

He finished his TU career with a 74.50 scoring average which is the seventh-lowest in program history. In his 40 career rounds as a Pioneers, he logged eight top-20 performances including four times in the top-10 and three top-five outings.

Williams, a rising senior from Lone Tree, Colorado, has a 3.85 GPA and is majoring in sport management. He is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Dean's List, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. He is also 2023 recipient of the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award.

He qualified for seven events and finished with a 75.29 stroke average which included four rounds of par or lower. He finished in the top-30 on five occasions including an 11th place showing at the Saint Leo Invitational where he posted a 54-hole total of 70-71-72=213 (-3), which is eighth in program history. He also tied for 21st at the Richard Rendleman Invitational.

The Pioneers, under the guidance of first-year head coach Hunter Chandley, recorded five finishes in the top-5 including a team title at the King Invitational. TU also finished runner-up at the Bob Dibble Intercollegiate and third at the Findlay Invitational. The Pioneers' fifth-place finish at the SAC Championship was its best league showing in six years.
