SALISBURY, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team opened its spring campaign with a first day score of 310 and is in 11th place at the Richard Rendleman Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at The Country Club of Salisbury and is hosted by Catawba College.
The tournament is also serving as a preview for the South Atlantic Conference championship, which will be held at this site in April.
Tusculum's Chris Hutson opened with a five-over par 76 and is tied for 24th place, while Taylor Smith and David Whinery each carded rounds of 77 and are tied for 36th. Preston Tucker shot an 80, while Cameron Dugger posted an 81 and are currently 53rd and 55th respectively.
Tusculum's Dylan Scalf, playing as an individual competitor carded an 84 and is tied for 63rd.
Queens University of Charlotte leads the team competition as the Royals shot 289 and have a three-shot lead over second place North Greenville (292). Anderson is third with 293, followed by Coker (295), Lincoln Memorial (295), Lenoir-Rhyne (299), Brevard (304), Wingate (305), Pfeiffer (307), Catawba (308), Tusculum, Livingstone (324) and Belmont Abbey (327) to round out the scoring.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Brad Robinson posted the only red number of the day with his three-under par 68 as he holds a three stroke advantage of three players tied with an even par 71.
The final round will be played on Tuesday.
