ETOWAH, N.C. --- Tusculum College's Cameron Dugger fired a three-under par 69 as the Pioneers shot an opening round 285 and have the lead at the Etowah Intercollegiate. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at the Etowah Valley Golf Resort and hosted by Brevard College.
Tusculum has a four-shot lead over second place Mars Hill (289). Brevard is third with 293, while King and Erskine B are tied for fourth place at 300. Virginia-Wise is sixth with 301, followed by Erskine (307), Brevard B (309) and Christian Brothers (321).
Dugger fired his lowest round as a Pioneer and is one shot out of the lead currently held by Adam Lumley of Mars Hill with a four-under par 68.
Senior Taylor Smith shot a two-under par 70 and is tied for fourth place, while junior newcomer David Whinery is tied for sixth place with 71. Senior Chris Hutson carded a 75 and is tied for 15th place, while rookie Anthony Bolden rounded out the Tusculum scoring with an 85 (45th).
The final round of the tournament will be played Tuesday on the par-72, 6,892-yard layout.
