KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. --- Tusculum College senior Chris Hutson fired an opening round 70 and is tied for sixth place after day one action of the 2016 Kiawah Island Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at Osprey Point Golf Club and hosted by USC Aiken.
The Pioneers posted a team score of 298 and are currently in 15th place.
Hutson posted the two-under par score and closed out his round with four consecutive birdies heading into the clubhouse. He is five shots behind first round leader Cabrick Waters of Limestone who fired a seven-under par 65.
Limestone has the team lead with 280, three shots in front of second place Valdosta State (283). Armstrong State is third with 285, while Lenoir-Rhyne, King and Rollins are in a three-way tie for fourth place. USC Aiken is seventh with 292, while Coker and Georgia College are tied for eighth place with 294. Mount Olive and Lincoln Memorial are tied for 10th with 295, while West Georgia, Erskine, and Belmont Abbey are locked in a three-way tie for 12th place with 296. Tusculum is 15th, followed by Flagler (299), Brevard (300) and Barton (300).
Senior Cameron Dugger carded a 74 and is currently in tied for 40th place. Rookie Anthony Bolden posted a 76 in his collegiate debut and is tied for 61st while the senior duo of Taylor Smith and Preston Tucker each carded a 78 and are tied for 73rd place.
The final round of the tournament will be played on Tuesday.
