BLUEFIELD, Va. --- Senior Nick Forsberg fired a three-over par 73 to lead the Tusculum College men's golf team to capture the title at the 2016 Fincastle Collegiate Invitational. The one-day, 18-hole tournament was held at the par-70, 6,643-yard Fincastle Country Club.
The Pioneers posted a team score of 309 to win by six shots over runner-up Davis & Elkins. The win is Tusculum's fifth of the year, which ties the single-season record set by last year's squad.
Host Bluefield State finished third with 321, followed by Bluefield College (324), Pittsburgh-Johnstown (344), Concord (352) and West Virginia State (400).
Forsberg finished tied with Zachary Luttrell of Bluefield College with the low round of the tournament. Luttrell won medalist honors on a scorecard playoff.
TC junior Chris Hutson finished tied for fifth place with his 77, while junior teammate Taylor Smith tied for eighth with 78. Senior Brad Hawkins tied for 12th with 81, while junior Cameron Dugger tied for 24th place with 90.
The Pioneers have also captured team tournament championships this season at the Tusculum Fall Classic, Walters State Invitational, Pioneer Classic and Tusculum Spring Invitational.
The Pioneers will be in action this Saturday for the annual Tusculum/Lincoln Memorial Match Play Challenge, which will be held at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tennessee.
