MONROE, N.C. --- Tusculum senior Brad Hawkins posted rounds of 67 and 68 for a nine-under par 135 and has the 36-hole lead at the 2016 Hargett Memorial Invitational. The second round was halted due to darkness with five golfers still on the course. The second round will resume on Monday morning, which will be followed by the final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament, which is being held at the Monroe Country Club.
The Pioneers carded team scores of 291 and 293 for a two-round total of 584 which currently has them in 11th place and 18 shots behind tournament leader Young Harris.¬¬¬¬¬ Host Wingate one shot behind the Mountain Lions at 567, while Lincoln Memorial (570) and Mars Hill (572) are in third and fourth place, respectively. Brevard and Lenoir-Rhyne are tied for fifth place with 573 and Pfeiffer is seventh with 579.
Queens is one of the teams with players still on the course when play was halted as the Royals are currently in eighth place at four-over par. Newberry is in ninth place with 581, followed by Belmont Abbey (583) and Tusculum (584). Coker (+14) and Findlay (+22) also have players on the course and are in 12th and 13th place, respectively. Belmont Abbey B is 14th with 607, followed by Walters State (611), Catawba (615) and Benedict (619).
Tusculum senior Nick Forsberg is tied for 20th place with 71-73=144 (Even), while junior Taylor Smith is tied for 59th with 75-76=151 (+7). Juniors Preston Tucker (78-76=154 +10) and Chris Hutson (80-81=161 +17) are in 69th and 80th place, respectively.
