SALISBURY, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team shot an opening day 306 and is in seventh place at the Richard Rendleman Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole event is being conducted at the par-71, 6,665-yard Country Club of Salisbury.
Leading the Pioneers is senior Nick Forsberg, who carded a three-over par round of 74 and is tied for 10th place.
Tusculum is 15 shots out of the lead, currently held by North Greenville who posted a team score of 291 on Monday. Lenoir-Rhyne is second with 297, while Pfeiffer is third at 298. Lincoln Memorial and Belmont Abbey are tied for fourth place at 299, followed by Anderson (302), Tusculum, King (307), Davis & Elkins (311), Brevard (314), Livingstone (316) and host Catawba (320).
Tusculum senior Brad Hawkins is tied for 13th place with his 75, while junior Taylor Smith is 24th with 76. Freshman Heath Ratliff is 53rd with his 81, while Chris Hutson posted an 87 and is 65th. TC's Preston Tucker, who is playing as an individual competitor, is 47th following his round of 80.
North Greenville's Seth Robertson and Carlos Lasso of Lenoir-Rhyne are tied for first place after each firing a one-under par round of 70.
The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday at the Country Club of Salisbury.
