PINEHURST, N.C. --- Tusculum College's Dakota Norton posted a two-over par score of 74 and is tied for fourth place after opening round action of the 14th annual J. Ralph Hargett Memorial. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at the National Golf Club.

Norton, a senior from Greeneville, Tenn., is competing as an individual competitor and carded identical scores of 37 on his outward and inward 9's.

As a team, Tusculum posted a score of 321 and is tied for 10th place. Queens University of Charlotte leads the team competition after posting a round of 300. Host Wingate University is second with 303, followed by Pfeiffer University (305), Walters State College (309), Brevard College (311), Catawba College (311), Cape Fear College (315), Lincoln Memorial University (315), Lenoir-Rhyne University (317), Tusculum, Mars Hill University (321) and the University of West Alabama (334).

Norton is three strokes behind first-round leader Benedict Gebhardt of Wingate, who is the only player to shoot in red numbers Monday with his one-under par 71.

Sophomore Nick Forsberg posted a 77 and is tied for 20th place, while freshman Chris Hutson is 27th with 78. Junior Coleman Glick is tied for 35th place with 80, while junior Warren Cheney is tied for 61st with 86. Freshman Jake Mendenhall carded a 91 and is in 65th place.

The final round will be played on Tuesday on the par-72, 6,632-yard layout.
