
CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Tusculum freshman Nick
Forsberg posted an opening round 74 as he and the Pioneers are
both in second place following day one action of the 2013 J. Ralph
Hargett Memorial Golf Tournament. The two-day, 36-hole event is
being held at the par-72, 6,936-yard Olde Sycamore Plantation.
Tusculum posted a team scored of 311 and is six shots off the lead
set by Walters State (305). Pfeiffer is in third with 314, USC
Lancaster is fourth with 316, while Lenoir-Rhyne and host Wingate
are tied for fifth place with 317. The Belmont Abbey B Team and
Bluefield State are tied for seventh with 320, while Belmont Abbey
C Team and Lincoln Memorial are tied for ninth place with 321.
Queens B Team is 11th with 322, followed by UNC Pembroke (330),
Anderson (336) and Catawba B Team (358).
Bluefield State's Chandler Beavers is the first round leader with
his one-over par 73. Forsberg is in a five-way tie for second with
74, along with: Brian Denton (Wingate), Connor Froning (Lincoln
Memorial), John White (Lenoir-Rhyne) and Jake Wetzel (Belmont Abbey
B).
Tusculum senior Nick York is tied for ninth place following Monday's 76. Sophomore Leif Ratliff is tied for 25th place with 80, while senior Derek Cantrell is 36th with 81. Junior Dakota Norton rounds out the scoring for the Pioneers following his first day 90 (T71st).
The final round of the 14-team, 77-player tournament will be conducted on Tuesday.
