SALISBURY, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men's golf teams erased 22 shots off its first day score to shoot 297 on Tuesday to record 36-hole total 616 to finish 17th at the Richard Rendleman Invitational. The two-day event was hosted by Catawba College and held at the par 71, 6,665-yard Country Club of Salisbury.
David Talley led the Pioneers with his one-under round of 70 as he was the top Tusculum finisher with 150 to tie for 31st place. Nick York carded a 78-73=151 to tie for 39th, while Justin Harvey finished 61st with 79-77=156. Derek Cantrell placed 73rd with 82-77=159, while senior Matt Poff made the biggest improvement from Monday as he knocked 11 strokes off his score to shoot 78 and finish 88th with his two-round score of 167.
UNC Pembroke one the team title by 10 shots as the Braves finished with 571, including a final round 280. Lincoln Memorial finished second with 581, followed by Carson-Newman (582), Barton (587), Lenoir-Rhyne (591), Belmont Abbey (592), King (595), while Wingate, Queens and Pfeiffer finished in a three-way tie for eighth place with 600.
The Pioneers are back in action this weekend as they host the 19th annual Tusculum Invitational at Link Hills Country Club. First round begins Saturday morning for the 18-team tournament field.
