SUNSET BEACH, N.C. --- Tusculum's Chase
Carroll fired an opening round 71 and is tied for fourth
place at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate, Friday at the NCAA Division
I dominated field hosted by Elon University. Tusculum is 13th in
the team competition following Friday's 306.
Carroll, a senior from Knoxville, Tenn., is two shots out of the
lead behind Elon's Steve Dressel, who posted a
three-under par 69.
Murray State leads the team competition with 295, one shot ahead
of Stetson. Wofford and USC Upstate are tied for third with 298,
followed by Elon and UNC Pembroke with 299 to tie for fifth place.
Bethune-Cookman is seventh with 300, followed by Appalachian State
(301), Bemont Abbey (302), Tennessee Tech (302), Guilford (303),
Houston Baptist (304), Tusculum, Radford (14), South Carolina State
(308), James Madison (310), High Point (313) and Hampton (323).
Tusculum's Darren Christie and Houston
White each carded 78 and are tied for 53rd, while
Jake Scheffers posted a 79 and is tied for 63rd.
Lawson George rounded out the scoring with an 82
(T83rd).
The three-day, 54-hole tournament will continue on Saturday with
the second round.
