ANDERSON, S.C. --- Tusculum's Darren
Christie led wire-to-wire to capture medalist honors at
the Anderson University Invitational Tuesday at Brookstone Meadows
Country Club. Christie followed up Monday's 66 with a one-under par
71 to shoot a career-best 137 to win by two strokes.
Limestone and Tusculum posted identical rounds of 291 as the
Saints edged the Pioneers by one stroke to capture the team
championship. Limestone fired a two-day total of 575, while TC
posted 576 to finish as runner-up. Mount Olive posted the best
round of the day with 297 to finish third at 580, followed by
Anderson (582), St. Andrews (588), Lincoln Memorial (588), Catawba
(594), North Greenville (595), Tri-County CC (599) and Erskine
(608).
Jake Scheffers carded a two-under par 70 on
Tuesday to finish ninth with a two-day score of 143. Chase
Carroll and Lawson George each finished
with 148 to tie for 22nd, while Matt McIntyre
placed 51st with 166. Rookie Justin Harvey,
playing as an individual competitor, tied for 38th place with
155.
Christie's 137 is tied for the second best 36-hole performance in
school history. Christie's previous medalist honor came at the 2007
Tusculum Invitational. TC 576 was also the third lowest two-round
team score in Tusculum history.
The Pioneers return to action this weekend when they compete at
the Newberry Invitational in Prosperity, S.C.
