MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. --- Tusculum College senior
Chase Carroll posted a final round 72 to card a
three-day score of 220 to finish tied for 24th place at the 2009
NCAA Division II Southeast/South Men's Golf Super Regional. The
54-hole tournament was held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at
the Shoals and hosted by the University of North Alabama.
Carroll, a Knoxville, Tenn. product, wrapped up one of the finest
golf careers in Tusculum and South Atlantic Conference history. For
a second straight day, Carroll improved his standing, climbing 11
spots up the leader board.
With threatening weather conditions looming in the region, the
start of the final round was delayed until mid-morning, resulting
in a shotgun start with Carroll starting on the 18th hole. Carroll
would par his first seven holes. He would suffer his first bogey of
the day on No. 7, but responded with a birdie three on the
following hole. But similar to Tuesday's second round, Carroll
followed a birdie with a bogey moving him to two-over on his
round.
The SAC Player of the Year answered with three birdies and a bogey
on his final eight holes to finish even par for the day and
four-over for the championship.
Carroll finished 10 shots behind super regional medalist Jake
Greer of North Alabama as he finished with a three-day 210 (-6),
including a final round 71. Greer led the Lions to the super
regional title as UNA (868) finished just one stroke ahead of Lynn
University (869).
Carroll ends the year with a 72.08 stroke average, which
establishes a new school and conference single-season mark. The
three-time All-SAC performer also ends his collegiate career with
the best scoring average in Tusculum history at 74.29. That average
is also the second lowest in the league record book.
