INDIANAPOLIS --- For a third consecutive year, Tusculum
College's Chase Carroll has qualified to play in
the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Super Regional. Carroll, a senior
from Knoxville, Tenn., will be playing in the Southeast/South Super
Regional, May 4-6 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the
Shoals, located in Muscle Shoals, Ala. The three-day, 54-hole
tournament is being hosted by the University of North Alabama.
Carroll is slated to begin his opening round at 1:10 p.m. (CST) on
Monday, May 4. Twenty teams (20) and eight individuals are
participating in this year's tournament. Last season, he recorded a
sixth-place performance, posting the best NCAA Regional finish in
school history. In 2007, Carroll placed 34th at the NCAA Regional
in his sophomore campaign.
Carroll is enjoying one of the best seasons ever posted by a
Tusculum golfer. The Bearden High School graduate has a 71.91
stroke average this year, which is on-pace to be a new school and
South Atlantic Conference record. He was named the South Atlantic
Conference Player of the Year, while also sharing Tusculum Male
Athlete of the Year accolades. The three-time All-SAC selection has
captured medalist honors three times this year, including last
week's SAC Championship, marking the second time in his career he
has garnered SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors.
During his stellar career, he has won six tournaments, which is
currently tied for the most in school history with former
All-American and Tusculum Sports Hall of Famer Todd
Ricker (1992-96). Carroll's 74.33 career scoring average
is also the lowest in school history and the second-best in SAC
history. He has recorded 21 sub-par rounds in his career (new
school record), including a TC-best 10 rounds below par this
season.
Carroll has also shined off the golf course, being named SAC
Scholar Athlete for Men's Golf the last three years. The SAC
Scholar Athlete Awards honors athletic excellence, academic
achievement, community service and leadership. He was named to the
ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team last year,
while also being tabbed a GCAA All-American Scholar.
