CARROLL CAPTURES SECOND CAREER SAC TOURNAMENT TITLE, MEN'S GOLF FINISHES FOURTH

Chase Carroll ETOWAH, N.C. --- Tusculum College senior and South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year Chase Carroll battled high winds, and a talented field on Tuesday at the Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort to capture his second career Food Lion SAC Men's Golf Tournament title with a three-round total of 69+71+77=217 (+1). The Pioneers shot 301 as a team on Tuesday, finishing the tournament in fourth place with a two-day total of 297+301+301=899.

Newberry College (291+298+294=883) won its second straight conference tournament title; finishing 16 strokes clear of second-place Wingate University's three-round total of 293+299+303=895. Carson-Newman College (293+293+311=897) finished fourth, followed by Tusculum, Brevard College (293+294+315=902), Lincoln Memorial University (298+306+301=905), Lenoir-Rhyne University (307+305+302=914), Mars Hill College (298+305+317=920), and Catawba College (302+314+319=935).

Carroll paced the Pioneers throughout the tournament and led the field wire-to-wire, pouring in a birdie on the final hole to edge Cory Bartlett of Lincoln Memorial University and earn a spot on the SAC All-Tournament Team.

Tusculum's Darren Christie posted one of the best rounds of the day on Tuesday, shooting a one-over-par 73 to finish the tournament tied for 11th place at 76+75+73=224. Lawson George (75+76+76=227) finished tied for 21st, followed by Jake Scheffers (77+81+76=234) in a tie for 30th and Houston White (81+79+76=236) in 36th.
