MEN'S GOLF IN 10TH AT CAROLINA SANDS

Chase Carroll WHITE LAKE, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team fired an opening round 308 and is in 10th place after day one action of the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate, Saturday at the Carolina Sand Golf Club.

Senior Chase Carroll carded a 74 and is tied for 20th and is seven shots out of the lead, held by Jonathan Burke of Barton College. Burke is five-under par with his opening round 67.

Barton leads the team competition with 279 and leads by nine shots over second place Queens University of Charlotte. Coker is third with 289, followed by Brevard (291), Catawba (296), Mount Olive (296), host UNC Pembroke (299), St. Andrews Presbyterian (303), Lenoir-Rhyne (303), Tusculum, Cape Fear (309), Virginia State (310), Shenandoah (315), Ferrum (333), Chowan (342) and North Carolina Wesleyan (DNF).

Tusculum's Lawson George is tied for 41st following Saturday's 76. Glenn Vicary and Justin Harvey are tied for 56th with 79 each, while Darren Christie shot 87 (T84th).

The tournament will conclude with Sunday's final round on the par 72, 6,925-yard layout.
