GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Five student-athletes have
indicated they will attend Tusculum College and play golf for the
Pioneers announced men's coach Bob Dibble. Joining
the Tusculum squad next year are Luke Fullen,
Derek Cantrell, Nick York,
David Talley and Eric Quinn.
Fullen, a Greeneville, Tenn. native, comes to Tusculum after
playing at Walters State Community College where he earned Second
Team All-American honors. He shot eight-under par this past summer
to win the Club Championship at Link Hills Country Club, Tusculum's
home course. He followed that effort in September when he fired a
four-under par 70-68=138 to finish second at the Tusculum Fall
Classic. Fullen is expected to step in and challenge for the No. 1
spot on the team.
Cantrell, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., is wrapping up his prep
career at Halls High School, where he earned All-KIL honors. Last
year, he earned a spot on the District All-Tournament team while
leading Halls to a District championship. Cantrell shot seven-under
par to win the Beaver Brook Country Club championship. Cantrell has
the ability to go low and should add depth to the Tusculum
roster.
York, a Kingsport, Tenn. product, has starred on the golf course
at Sullivan South High School. This past summer, he posted a 72 at
The Virginian to win the 2008 Tri-Cities Junior Amateur. He also
tied for first in the TGKA event with rounds of 70-72=142 and won
the conference individual title with a 71. York is an impact player
and should be able to step in immediately and contribute to the
team.
Talley, a native of Bristol, Va., brings significant playing
experience with him from Virginia High School. He has posted a low
competitive round of 68 and comes from a great golfing family.
Talley has played junior golf all over the region and possesses and
excellent golf swing.
Rounding out this year's early commitments is Norcross, Ga. native
Eric Quinn. Quinn finished first in the Stone Mountain Junior
Amateur with 72-71=143. He also shot 71-76=147 in the Orchard Hills
Junior Classic. Quinn possesses a smooth golf swing and hits the
ball very long.
"This year's commitments may be one the best overall groups that
we have had since I've been here," said Dibble.
Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn. is affiliated with
