SMYRNA, Tenn. --- Tusculum University's Tyler Moore finished runner-up at the Smyrna Sectional qualifier of the 2021 USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships.
Moore bowled a six-game 1,234 total pinfall, which are the second-most in Friday's sectional play and qualifies him for the USBC National Championship in Wyoming, Michigan (May 5-8).
Moore bowled a season-best 275 in his fifth game on Friday, which was the second-highest score of the Smyrna Sectional. He posted game scores of 186, 233, 181, 181, 275 and 178 for his 1,234 pinfall, which was just eight pins behind sectional winner Ronnie Huff of Webber International (1,242). Joining Moore and Huff to advance to Michigan are Ryan Reid (Siena Heights), RC Smith (Webber International), Nathan Burns (Rio Grande) and Jacob Toelke (Thomas More).
Tusculum teammate Gabe Taulbee finished 39th with his six-game total 1,099 including a 213 in his third game of the day. Bryan McLeod was 81st with 1,031, Jared Vermillion posted a 1,022 pinfall which was tied for 87th. Toney Franklin finished with 1,003 pins (T101st), Justin Byrd had 979 pins (118th) and Randall Andrews totaled 960 (129th).
The Pioneers will compete at the Intercollegiate Team Championships on Saturday with five 4-game Baker blocks (20 games) beginning at 7:15 a.m. (CT).
