Tusculum's Price honored as TSWA Player of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College senior guard Javon Price was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday, after averaging 20.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists in three wins for the Pioneers last week.

The Miami, Fla., native posted 13 points and four rebounds in a 100-92 victory over Bluefield State last Monday and netted 12 points with five boards in a 91-82 triumph at Mars Hill on Wednesday. Price then registered a career-high 37 points in a 96-89 double-overtime win against 12th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte, hitting 12-of-27 shots overall with three 3-pointers. He connected on 10-of-13 attempts at the foul line as well and added seven rebounds and six assists, helping Tusculum qualify for the South Atlantic Conference Tournament for the first time in three seasons.

Price is averaging 12.5 points per game this season and 21.7 points per outing over the last seven contests, reaching double figures in all seven of those games including performances of 26 and 30 points in addition to his 37-point outburst against Queens.

The Pioneers (14-14) open the SAC Men's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial University. Game time at Tex Turner Arena in Harrogate is 7 p.m. for the quarterfinal matchup with the top-seeded Railsplitters (26-2), who are ranked second in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II Top 25 poll.
