Mounce earns All-SAC basketball honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College center Chase Mounce has been named to the 2014-15 All-South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball second team announced league officials Wednesday.

Mounce and the junior tandem of Matt Shown and Javon Price were also declared SAC Statistical Champions.

Mounce, a 6-10, 235-pound sophomore from Elkin, North Carolina, led the Pioneers in scoring (16.5 ppg - 6th in SAC), blocked shots (2.04 - 1st in SAC/25th in NCAA II) and field goal percentage (.529 - 10th in SAC). He also finished second on the squad averaging 7.9 rebounds per game (5th in SAC/ and tied for the league lead with nine double-doubles (T35th in NCAA II). He recorded five straight double-doubles, becoming the first player in school history to achieve the feat.

Mounce scored 20 or more points on nine occasions this year, including a season-high 26 points at Pfeiffer University. He also recorded a season-best 15 rebounds against the Falcons in last November's meeting.

His 222 rebounds this season are tied for the eighth most in Tusculum history and he also led the team in free throws made (127 - 9th in TC history) and free throw attempts (183 - 6th in TC history). He also posted four or more blocked shots in six games, including a career-high seven rejections against fifth-ranked Lincoln Memorial University. His seven blocks matched the total he posted last year at Anderson University are one shy of the TC single-game record eight blocks set by Brad Hawks in 2002.

Shown was named the SAC statistical champion for rebounds per game. The 6-7, 220-pound Knoxville, Tennessee product averaged 8.9 rebounds per contest which are currently 34th in the nation. Shown tied for the SAC-lead with nine double-doubles and posted nine outings with double-figure rebounds, including a season-high 16 boards in TC's overtime win at Lenoir-Rhyne University last month.

Price, a 6-3, 185-pound guard, was the statistical champion for three-point field goals made per game, averaging 3.50 per contest, which are presently eighth in the country. The Miami, Florida native connected on a three-pointer in 25 of his 26 games played, including a string of 20 consecutive contests to end the season. His 91 three-pointers are the fifth most in program history and seventh most in the SAC record book. Price's 230 three-point attempts are sixth in TC history and seventh in SAC history.
