GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Trevon Shaw scored a career-high 34 points, including the game-winning layup with 2.3 seconds left to lead Brevard College to a thrilling 81-79 South Atlantic Conference win over Tusculum College Wednesday night at Pioneer Arena.

The Tornados (4-9, 2-5 SAC) rallied from a 13-point deficit in the second half to avenge an earlier season loss to the Pioneers (1-11, 1-6 SAC).

The defeat spoils the career shooting night for Tusculum junior Javon Price, who posted a career-best 29 points, including eight 3-pointers, which are tied for the seventh most in TC single-game history. Price went 8-for-10 from downtown as the Pioneers went 12-for-21 (57%) as a team from downtown.

TC junior Chase Mounce added 23 points and five rebounds, while sophomore Cory Fagan contributed 15 markers, eight rebounds and four assists in his 40 minutes of play. Junior Chase Mounce posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while senior guard Mason Fox dished out a career-high 10 assists.

For Brevard, Darius Moose, the league's top scorer, finished with 15 points, while Phil Wallace added 12 points off the bench as BC has won four of its last seven contests.

Following Price's eighth trey of the night, the Pioneers would take a 78-71 lead with 4:05 left in the game. It would prove to be Tusculum's final field goal of the evening as the Tornados would close out the contest with a 10-1 run.

Shaw and Stevie Williams would score a basket each for the visitors to trim the TC lead to 78-75 with 2:07 to go. Shown came up with an offensive rebound on Tusculum's next possession and was fouled with 1:39 to go. He would miss the front end of the one-and-one bonus and Brayden Masten was fouled on the miss. He would make both of his free throws as the Tornados trailed 78-77.

Tusculum came up with another big offensive board as Fagan was fouled. Fagan, TC's top free throw shooter, made his first shot, but missed the second, as Tusculum led 79-77 with 49 seconds left. It was Fagan's first errant free throw try of the season, ending a string of 26 in a row dating back to last year.

Moose's three-point attempt was off target, but the Tornados made the offensive rebound. Wallace would draw a foul with 20 seconds left to tie the game for only the second time of the night at 79-79.

With eight seconds left, Fox drove down end line as layup missed off the iron and was hauled in by Moose for the Tornados. Miles Leathers found Shaw breaking down court as he converted the game-winning bucket. Following a timeout with 1.8 seconds left, TC's pass to midcourt was picked off by Moose to end the game.

In the first period, Tusculum used a 12-3 run to take a 32-19 advantage at the 6:12 mark of the half. The Tornados whittled down the deficit to seven following back-to-back treys by Shaw. Mounce added layup for Tusculum, while Shaw made a pair of free throws as Brevard trailed 39-32 with 21 second to go in the period. With time running out, Fagan connected on a 24-footer at the buzzer from the right wing as TC led 42-32 at the intermission.

In the second half, Price opened with a three-pointer to push the Tusculum lead back out to 13 at 45-32. Over the next 5:44. BC used a 17-5 run to trail 50-49 with 13:12 left in the period.

Brevard would take its first lead of the second half as Wallace scored five points single-handedly, including his trey with 10:36 to go to take a 56-54 advantage.
Tusculum answered with a 15-4 run over the next 3:23, sparked by 10 points from Price, including a rare four-point play as the Pioneers led 69-60 with 7:13 remaining.

Brevard battled back once again with a three-point play by Leathers and a Masten trifecta as BC trailed 71-69 with 5:34 on the clock to set up the heroics in the final moments.

For a second straight game, the Pioneers shot above 50 percent from the floor, going 27-for-52 (52%), including 56 percent in the first half. Brevard shot 46 percent, including a 18-of-32 in the second half (56%), along with 6-of-12 from beyond the three-point arc.

Tusculum out-rebounded Brevard by a 36-28 margin, but the Tornados forced 18 turnovers, resulting into 25 points, including 17 in the second half alone for Brevard.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday when they host Lenoir-Rhyne University for a 4 p.m. conference game at Pioneer Arena.
