--- Vincent Bailey scored 26 points to lead the 11th-ranked
Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team to a 97-68 South Atlantic
Conference victory at Tusculum College Wednesday night at Pioneer
Arena.
The Railsplitters (12-1, 8-1 SAC) remain atop the league standings
while recording their eighth consecutive win.
Bailey shot 10-for-12 from the floor and 6-of-9 at the free throw
line while hauling in six rebounds. Chance Jones added 18 points,
while Lorenza Ross and Luquon Choice scored a dozen markers
each.
Tusculum (1-14, 0-9 SAC) was led in scoring by Darius Carter's
17-point performance and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds.
Addison Flynn posted eight points, including a pair of
three-pointers, while Jalen Walker and BJ Fisher posted five points
each in the loss.
LMU led wire-to-wire in the contest as the Railsplitters shot 52
percent for the game, while limiting the Pioneers to fire just 38
percent for the night.
The visitors out-rebounded Tusculum by a 46-28 margin, including
16-7 on the offensive glass resulting into 18 second chance
points.
LMU scored the first eight points of the contest and raced out to a
35-15 lead with 5:32 remaining in the opening half before setting
for a 46-31 advantage at the intermission.
The Railsplitters opened the second period with a 15-4 run in the
first 5:09 to take a 61-35 lead following a Bailey layup. TC
whittled the deficit down to 16 (71-55) after an 11-4 spurt that
included back-to-back treys by Flynn and a Carter three-point play
with 10:18 left in the contest. But that would be as close as the
Pioneers would get as Curtis McMillion knocked down a jumper in the
paint to increase the LMU lead to 77-56 as the Railsplitters
maintained at least a 20-point cushion for the remainder of
game.
LMU's Keenan Peterson accounted for eight rebounds, while Curtis
Webb contributed eight boards off the bench to go along with his
eight points, five assists and three steals. Ten of the eleven LMU
players found the scoring column on Wednesday.
Carter finished the game shooting 11-for-14 from the free throw
line as he scored his 600th point of his collegiate career
(603).
Tusculum returns to action Saturday afternoon as the Pioneers
travel to Wingate for a 4 p.m. contest at Cuddy Arena.
