Six players scored in double figures and the University of Tennessee shot 57.4 percent from the field in a 98-51 victory over Tusculum College in men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Jordan McRae scored 19 points and Jeronne Maymon had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Vols (9-4), who led 52-27 at halftime and closed the game with a 32-5 run over the final 11 minutes. Antonio Barton added 14 points, D'Montre Edwards had 12 points off the bench and Jarnell Stokes and Josh Richardson contributed 10 points each in the victory for Tennessee.

Darius Carter scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Pioneers, who were playing their second exhibition game this season against a major Division I opponent, following a 93-44 loss at Notre Dame on Nov. 1. Addison Flynn chipped in with 10 points for Tusculum, which shot 26.4 percent (14-for-53) from the field but connected on 7-for-20 from three-point range and committed just 14 turnovers.

Tennessee made its first six shots from the field en route to a 13-3 lead after 3 1/2 minutes, but Tusculum kept the score even over the next 10 minutes and trailed 32-21 after two free throws from Carter with 6:30 left in the half. However, a three-pointer from Jalen Walker with 8:02 left in the half would be the final field goal for Tusculum, as the Vols closed with a 21-6 run to go to halftime with a 52-27 lead.

McRae led all players with 17 points in the first half for the Vols on 6-for-8 shooting, while Carter paced the Pioneers with 16 points. Tusculum shot 24 percent (6-for-25) from the field in the half but went 12-for-14 from the free-throw line and turned the ball over just six times. Meanwhile, the Vols were 18-for-33 (54.5 percent) from the field and did not have a turnover in the opening half.

Carter went 4-for-13 from the field, including 3-for-6 from three-point range, and hit 11-of-13 free-throw attempts in 35 minutes of playing time. Carter has scored in double figures in each of the Pioneers' 12 regular-season games, and the 22 points would be his second-highest total of the season behind a 26-point effort against Trevecca Nazarene on Nov. 15.

Tusculum trimmed the deficit to 19 at 56-37 with 16:36 to go following back-to-back baskets from Flynn, but Tennessee built its lead back to 26 as a three-pointer by Edwards gave the Vols a 64-38 lead with 13:51 left. Flynn hit a three-pointer with 11:41 on the clock to pull the Pioneers within 66-46, but the Vols scored the next 16 points to go head 82-46 with 6:39 left.

After a layup by Neal Spinks with 6:02 to play left Tusculum trailing 82-48, the Vols rattled off 17 of the next 18 points to take their largest lead at 98-49 with just over a minute to go on the clock. Tusculum scored the final points of the game on a layup by Zach Davis with 34 seconds left, and the Vols ran out the clock to wrap up the afternoon.

Tennessee dominated Tusculum in the paint by a 48-10 margin and led in points off turnovers by a 24-4 margin. The Vols had all 15 fast-break points in the game and saw its bench outscore the Pioneer reserves 37-12.

Darius Thompson made his only shot attempt for the Vols but finished with a game-high nine assists in 23 minutes of action. Derek Reese also had a solid game off the Tennessee bench with eight points, seven rebounds and two of the Vols' nine blocked shots.

For Tusculum, Keith Jumper finished with just two points but led the team with seven rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots in 33 minutes of action. Walker had four points in 14 minutes off the bench while Davis, Cory Fagan and Matt Shown each had three points for Tusculum.

The Pioneers return to regular-season action on Wednesday night when they play at Brevard in a South Atlantic Conference game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. from Boshamer Gymnasium.
