--- The Brevard College men's basketball team connected on 17
three-pointers, including 11 in the second half en route to a 95-73
South Atlantic Conference road win at Tusculum College Tuesday
night at Pioneer Arena.
The Tornados (1-3, 1-2 SAC) were led by Dominique Pickett's
34-point performance as he shot 12-for-20 from the floor, including
7-of-12 from beyond the arc to pace four BC players in double
figures. Miles Leathers added 21 points, including 18 in the
opening half, while Darius Moose finished with 15 points, 10
assists and five steals in his 37 minutes of action.
TC senior Addison Flynn led the Pioneers with his 26-point effort,
his third straight 20-point game and fourth in his last five
outings. Flynn shot 7-of-9 from three-point land, while also
grabbing a team-high six rebounds. Darius Carter added 19 points,
six assists and four steals, while Neal Spinks accounted for 15
markers and four rebounds in the loss.
Brevard finished the night shooting 56 percent from the field,
including a sizzling 17-of-23 in the second half (73.9%) as well as
11-of-15 from downtown (73.3%).
Trailing 33-28 with 6:14 remaining in the first half, Brevard
closed out the period with a 16-3 run to take a 44-36 lead at the
intermission.
BC increased its lead to 55-42 in the first 3:44 of the second half
following a Pickett trey. Tusculum answered with a 5-1 run to cut
the deficit to single digits (56-47) after a BJ Fisher
three-pointer. The Tornados went on an 11-2 spurt over the next
2:17 as BC rained down treys from Pickett, Moose and Manzey Miller
to open up the lead to 67-49 with 12:26 left on the clock.
Tusculum got back to within 11 (69-58) following a steal and dunk
by Carter at the 10:49 mark of the period. Pickett scored four in a
row to move BC back out to a 15-point advantage (73-58), but TC
followed with a Flynn trey and two free throws by Carter to make it
a 73-63 Brevard lead with 7:08 left.
But that would be as close as the Pioneers would get as Brevard
went on an 18-6 run in the final six minutes and tacked on a
Harrison White slam dunk in the final seconds to close out the
contest.
BC out-rebounded the Pioneers by a 37-29 margin as Pickett led all
players with nine boards, while Leathers grabbed seven rebounds for
the Tornados.
Tusculum finished the game shooting 41.1 percent from the floor and
shot a respectable 10-of-20 from the three-point arc.
The Pioneers will close out its three-game home-stand this Saturday
afternoon with a 4 p.m. league tilt against undefeated Newberry
College.
