Addison Flynn scored a career-high 23 points, including the go-ahead basket with 2:02 left, as Tusculum College defeated Lees-McRae College 70-63 in non-conference men's basketball action Wednesday night at Williams Gymnasium.

The Pioneers (2-7) held the Bobcats (0-10) without a field goal for the final 10 minutes, 24 seconds to erase a five-point deficit and snap a six-game losing streak. Tusculum outscored Lees-McRae 19-7 after DJ Brown hit a three-pointer to give the Bobcats a 56-51 lead.

Flynn, who shot 8-for-15 from the field and drilled a season-best four three-pointers, also hit a pair of free throws with 16 seconds to play to extend the Pioneer lead to 68-63. He surpassed his previous career high of 17 points set twice earlier this season.

Daniel O'Conner added 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds off the bench for the Pioneers, while Neal Spinks chipped in with 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting. Overall, the Tusculum bench outscored the Lees-McRae reserves by a 35-16 margin.

Asad Lamot led Lees-McRae with 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range. However, he scored just two points in the second half after torching the Pioneers for 18 points in the opening 20 minutes of action.

The Bobcats shot 32 percent (8-for-25) from the field in the second half, and finished the game 9-for-18 from three-point range after making their first six attempts of the contest. Lees-McRae finished the game at 40.7 percent (22-for-54) from the field as a team.

Tusculum scored the game's first five points on a three-pointer by Flynn and a basket by Keith Jumper, only to see Lees-McRae score 15 of the next 20 points to take a 15-10 lead on a layup by Charles Clarke just under six minutes into the game.

The Pioneers answered with a 15-2 run that included two three-pointers and eight points in all from Flynn to take a 25-17 lead with 8:05 remaining in the first half. Other than two brief ties, the Pioneers were able to carry the lead all the way to halftime at 38-34 behind 14 points from Flynn.

In the second half, it was Lees-McRae that opened with a run as Daniel Sepokas and Chad Eppley hit three-pointers in the opening minute to give the Bobcats a 40-38 lead. A free throw by Flynn gave Tusculum a 41-40 edge with 17:22 to go, but Tusculum would not lead again until Flynn's basket at the 2:01 mark.

Tusculum's defense played a major role helping the Pioneers take and maintain the lead, forcing the Bobcats into five turnovers in a span of six possessions inside the 4:00 mark. Lees-McRae attempted just three shots in the final four minutes and misfired on its final 11 field goals over the final 10 minutes of the game. After Sepokas hit two of three free throws with 5:16 left to give the Bobcats a 62-60 lead, the Pioneers outscored the hosts 10-1 the rest of the way.

With the Pioneers holding a 64-62 lead under two minutes, Nick Spinks came up with a steal and JD Miller dunked a missed shot by O'Conner to extend the Tusculum lead to 66-62 with 1:06 left. Flynn and O'Conner put the game away by hitting two foul shots apiece in the final 16 seconds.

Nick Spinks scored four points but added a game and season-high five assists for the Pioneers. Darius Carter came off the bench to contribute seven points, three assists and three steals in 29 minutes of action.

Sepokas joined Lamot in double figures for the Bobcats with 13 points on 4-for-15 shooting to go along with a team-high five rebounds and four assists. Brown tallied eight points off the bench and Clarke matched Sepokas on the boards with five rebounds in 21 minutes.

The Pioneers finished the game with a 35-28 edge in rebounding and outscored the Bobcats 15-4 in second-chance points. Both teams controlled the ball well, with Lees-McRae finishing with 14 turnovers and Tusculum committing 13 miscues.

Tusculum will resume South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at defending SAC Tournament champion Wingate.
