AMERICUS, Ga. --- Matt Shaw scored 27 points on 12-of-15 shooting to lead the Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team to a 75-60 win over visiting Tusculum Sunday afternoon.

The Hurricanes (3-2) led wire-to-wire in the inaugural meeting with the Pioneers (1-4). The two teams will meet again next month in Greeneville (Dec. 8).

GSW's Alan Arnett contributed 19 points off the bench, while Jamon Hawkins finished with 10 points and seven assists in the win.

Tusculum's Addison Flynn poured in a season-high 17 points, while shooting 7-of-11 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from three-point territory. Neal Spinks posted 13 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the field, while JD Miller and Keith Jumper added eight and seven points, respectively.

The Canes scored the first seven points of the contest, capped off by a three-point play from Michael Tankersley. GSW would take its largest lead of the half at 23-13 following a dunk by Arnett at the 11:44 mark.

TC answered with an 8-2 run, sparked by Jumper's three-point play with 7:52 left before halftime to trim the deficit to 25-21. The Canes scored the next six points, including a layup by Shaw as GSW moved back out to a 10-point lead at 31-21 with 4:42 left on the clock.

Following a pair of free throws by TC's Anton Tuz to bring the Pioneers back to within seven (33-26), Shaw answered with a three-point play to move the GSW advantage back to double-digits before taking a 36-27 lead at the half.

In the second half, Tusculum got back to within seven points on a Miller layup with 18:31 remaining in the game. GSW followed with an 8-2 spurt to give the Hurricanes a 46-31 lead at the 14:52 mark. The deficit would not drop below double digits for the remainder of the game and would grow to as many as 20 (68-48) thanks to an Arnett three-pointer.

The Hurricanes finished the game shooting 51.9 percent from the field, including 14-of-24 in the second half (58.3%). Tusculum was limited to shooting 39.1 percent, including 30.4 percent in the opening period.

GSW out-rebounded the Pioneers by a 36-27 margin, while blocking five shots, including three by Tankersley to go along with his nine points and game-high 10 boards.

Miller and Jumper led TC's rebounding efforts with six boards apiece.

Tusculum achieved a program milestone as the Pioneers connected on a three-point field goal in their 700th consecutive game, dating back to 1987 when the 3-point shot was instituted into the college game.

The Pioneers will host nationally-ranked Lincoln Memorial this Wednesday night at Pioneer Arena for an 8 p.m. contest. It will be the South Atlantic Conference opener for both teams and being a three-game home-stand for Tusculum.
