Tusculum's Kyle Moore ranked third nationally in scoring, three-point field goals

INDIANAPOLIS --- Tusculum College guard Kyle Moore continues to be the No. 3 scorer in the nation according to this week's NCAA Division II men's basketball statistics announced officials Tuesday.

Moore is listed in four statistical categories, while sophomore guard Justin Steigerwald is mentioned twice in this week's report.

Moore, a 6-3, 190-pound senior from Gainesville, Fla., is averaging 25 points per game, which is tops in the South Atlantic Conference and the NCAA II Southeast Region. Moore's scoring average is also the fifth-best for all NCAA divisions.

He averaged 28.5 points per game in leading Tusculum to a pair of league wins over Newberry and Brevard last week. For his efforts, he was named SAC Player of the Week for second straight week and fourth time this season. It also marked this ninth time in his three-year TC career he has earned this honor.

Moore is third nationally in three-point field goals made per game, averaging 4.1 treys per contest. His 106 three-point field goals this year are the most in school and conference history. In just 85 games at Tusculum, Moore has generated 295 three-pointers, which are a league-record and second most in school history. Moore is also listed fifth nationally in all three NCAA divisions in three-pointers.

Moore is 10th in the country in three-point field goal percentage (.461) and 39th in free throw percentage (.856).

Steigerwald, a 6-3, 190-pound native of Cincinnati, Ohio, continues to lead the league in assists, averaging 5.1 helpers per contest. The Oak Hill High School graduate also leads the conference in assist/turnover ratio, posting a 2.49 rating, which is 20th in the land.

The Pioneers (16-10, 10-5 SAC) are ranked in six team statistical categories, including 10th in scoring defense (60.9 ppg), 46th in field goal percentage defense (.412), eighth in three-point field goal percentage (.416), 15th in three-point field goal percentage defense (.296), 22nd in free throw percentage (.745) and 49th in assists per game (15.8 apg).

Tusculum is in sole possession of first place in the South Atlantic Conference entering Wednesday's league tilt at Mars Hill College in the Pioneers' regular-season finale. A win by Tusculum would clinch at least a share of the program's second SAC Championship.
