ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Kyle Moore have been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week announced league officials Monday. Moore earns the honor for a second straight week and fourth time this season. It also marks the ninth time in his career he has been selected.
Moore, a 6-3, 190-pound senior guard from Gainesville, Fla., averaged 28.5 points per game to lead the Pioneers to a pair of South Atlantic Conference wins last week. Moore shot 54.3 percent from the field, including a sizzling 16-of-29 (55.2 percent) from three-point territory as he established yet another school and league record. With the two wins, the Pioneers (16-10, 10-5 SAC) take over sole possession of first place in the conference, while adding on to TC's four-game winning streak.
Moore has connected on 106 three-pointers this season, which are a new school and league record. He breaks the league mark he set last year when he connected on 101 treys. He also surpasses the previous TC best of 102 set by former All-Region forward Shane Banks (102 in 1998-99).
Moore poured in 25 points in Tusculum's 68-59 win over Newberry. Moore shot 8-of-12 from the floor, including 7-of-11 from beyond the arc as TC completed the season sweep over Newberry.
He followed with a 32-point performance in Tusculum's 68-52 win over former SAC leader Brevard. Moore matched a career-best with his nine 3-point field goals as he went 9-of-18 from downtown. Five of those treys came in a 15-5 second half spurt for Tusculum that put the Pioneers out to a double-digit lead.
Moore has scored 30 or more points on 10 occasions this year and 15 times in his three years at Tusculum.
Tusculum will close out its regular season on Wednesday as the Pioneers travel to cross-mountain rival Mars Hill for an 8 p.m. contest at Stanford Arena. With a win, Tusculum would claim at least a share of the program's second SAC Championship.
